Department of Railway Transport provides education in profiling disciplines of study field transport – study program railway transport (in all forms of study), as well as selected disciplines of other study programs on the Faculty of Operation and Economics of Transport and Communications. These disciplines are focused on technology, management and economics of transport and shipping activities of railway transport and combined transport.
Graduates of bachelor study program (1st degree) are being educated to meet the requirements of operators and users of railway and combined transport, railway siding operators and operators of factory railway transport. Graduates are capable of managing transport and shipping processes, as well as business economic activities, on all organization levels.
Graduates of engineer study program (2nd degree) are being educated to meet the requirements of operators and users of railway and combined transport, railway siding operators and operators of factory railway transport, state and regional transport authorities for railway transport. Graduates are capable of analyzing, managing, proposing and developing transport and shipping processes, as well as business economic activities, on all organization levels.
Department of railway transport is orienting its science and research activities especially on organization and management of technological processes in railway and combined transportation, on optimization and development of railway passenger and freight transport, efficiency of investment projects, internalization of external cost and others.

Department of railway transport has its own, modern designed transportation laboratory with large model railway (overall length of tracks is 100 meters). The department is operating computer classroom with LAN network with internet connection. This classroom is intended to training the multimedia applications and simulation programs to support the management of transportation and shipping processes.
